Khang T.
Khang graduated with a PhD from UC Davis, specializing in social and political philosophy. His research explores topics like the ethics of disability, migration, and social justice. During his graduate studies, he was honored to receive the UC Davis Vice Provost's First Year Fellowship in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Prior to his doctoral work, he graduated with the highest honors in Philosophy from UC Berkeley.
He has also been certified in “Strategies for Diversity-infused Courses” through the UC Davis Graduate Teaching Community, which enhances his ability to teach inclusively and adapt to students’ diverse learning needs.
Khang’s passion for philosophy was shaped by his time studying with Hubert Dreyfus, a professor whose teaching style continues to inspire him. Dreyfus’s emphasis on curiosity, engagement, and meaningful connections with ideas has greatly influenced Khang’s approach to tutoring. He strives to create a supportive learning environment where students feel empowered to ask questions, take intellectual risks, and grow as thinkers.
Khang is passionate about helping students develop the skills to think critically, engage deeply, and express their ideas with clarity and confidence. He believes that tutoring is more than simply teaching—it’s about fostering independence and empowering students to become better thinkers and communicators. His approach focuses on guiding students through challenging texts, sharpening their critical reasoning abilities, and writing with precision and impact. At the same time, he encourages an open mindset, one that embraces intellectual growth through dialogue, self-reflection, and the willingness to revise ideas.
Outside of academics, Khang enjoys live jazz music, photography, and rock climbing. These hobbies help him stay grounded and remind him of the importance of balance, creativity, and perseverance—values he also seeks to share with his students.
